Applications are now open for the IBPOC Student Interpreter Grant!
We recognize that a disproportionate number of IBPOC students have to rely on scholarships, student loans and part-time jobs to attend and finance a Canadian Interpreting Education Program (IEP). To reduce this barrier and create a more inclusive professional body, Asign offers $3,000 every year to one exceptional IBPOC IEP student.
To meet grant requirements, applicants must:
- Self-identify as Indigenous, Black or a Person of Colour
Be registered in a Canadian IEP (provide proof of acceptance letter or course registration) - Submit a resume, cover letter and video in ASL describing the following: your involvement in the Deaf Community, why you want to become an interpreter and how you plan to get involved in the Deaf and interpreting communities after graduation. Please keep your video under 8 minutes long and include it in your email application using a link or cloud-based file.
- A IBPOC committee will review the applications and select one individual to receive the grant.
Email your application and any questions to hr@asign.ca. Applications are due June 28th, 2024 and we’ll announce the recipient via email on July 26th, 2024.
